Faithful and ready.

The audacity of the Lincoln steamers in Virginia waters, which have repeatedly fired upon Virginia batteries, has only resulted in demonstrating the eagerness of our volunteers for the conflict, and their capacity of taking care of themselves in any emergency that may arise. We read with pride and pleasure of the prompt, effective and gallant response of our volunteers to these impudent marauders,--a foretaste on a small scale of what they are to expect hereafter. As soon as each battery is supplied with apparatus for heating shot, we shall be able to give our guests a reception in some degree commensurate with their deserts.
