"The best speech for the Times."

The Fredericksburg News publishes a letter which thus characterizes the speech of Gen. Lee, who, being vociferously called on for a speech at Orange Court-House, appeared, and said he had much more important matters on his mind than speech-making; advised all who were in service to be drilling, and those who for good reasons were not, to attend to their private affairs, and avoid the excitement and rumors of crowds, &c. We coincide fully with the News in its estimate of the excellence of this speech. It is a Paixham shot, and we hope will demolish forever the execrable habit of calling upon every public man for a speech, on all possible occasions.
