Singular capture of a bear.

--On Thursday last a huge black bear attempted to cross the Pennsylvania Railroad, in the vicinity of Mifflin, when he was struck by the cow-catcher and several wheels passed over him, amputating his left fore-leg at the shoulder, and cutting off a portion of his left hind-leg. Notwithstanding bruin's disabled condition, be fled into a ravine, and upon being pursued and cornered by the engineer of the train, who was armed with an axe, made such desperate resistance that the latter thought it the safest policy to beat a retreat. The pursuit was resumed the succeeding day and bruin finally dispatched. He weighed 280 pounds after being dressed.
