Encouraging.

--A mercantile firm in Charleston announces through the Courier of that city that they have in their employ six men subject to military duty, whose salaries, should the State require their services, will be paid during their absence, and their situations remain vacant until they return to fill them. Should any of them fall in the service of the State, it is promised that their widows or orphans shall be paid at the rate of the salary of the deceased for twelve months subsequent to such death.
