--A merchant of this city whose net profits during the Crimean war amounted to at least one hundred and fifty thousand dollars, passing safely through the crisis of 1857, and who was reputed a year or two since to be worth a quarter of a million, failed a few days ago with liabilities to the extent of two hundred thousand dollars, of which it is estimated he will be able to pay only about fifty per cent. A few weeks since a business man of Boston, who heretofore has been remarkably lucky in all his operations, made purchases of sugar to a very large amount, upon which his losses, it is estimated, will reach at least sixty thousand dollars.--Boston Traveller.
