Sudden death.

--Mr. J. W. Rawlings, the superintendent of the chain-gang, died at his residence, last Thursday night, after a brief illness. Some few days since, while attending to his duties, he was taken with convulsions and fell in the street. He was then conveyed to his residence, where medical aid was called in, but to no purpose. Mr. R. was at one time First Lieutenant in the old Fayette Artillery corps, and was a useful and popular officer.
