Preserve order.

--Our efficient and energetic Mayor has taken every precaution to preserve as much order in the city as the present excited state of the popular mind will possibly permit. The police are exerting their utmost vigilance for the public safety, and a sufficient force of mounted patrol have been enrolled to give prompt warning, from any point, of indications of danger. A large crowd of persons assembled yesterday evening at the several points of travel, to intercept an emissary of Lincoln's, who was reported to be in transitu from Norfolk to Washington. He was pointed out to the crowd and immediately arrested, and given into the custody of the police.
