--A Washington correspondent writes to a Philadelphia journal:

‘ It is not strange, I suppose, in these dull times, that gentlemen should be anxious to obtain employment; but it does sound queer to hear an ex-member of Congress importuning for clerkships in Departments, and situations as doorkeepers in the halls they have occupied as Representatives.
