Fortunate Esenpe.

--The four o'clock train from Petersburg, yesterday morning, was delayed about one hour and a half by the connecting rod of the engine breaking when about 7 miles this side of Petersburg. The cars ran about two hundred yards after it broke before it was discovered, tearing up a portion of the track. By the presence of mind of the engineer, he succeeded in stopping the engine before any serious damage was done, and managed to get as far as Chester, where another engine was procured when they proceeded to this city. Under the circumstances, this was a most fortunate escape.
