Cart before the Horse.

--In the proceedings of the Mayor's Court, in yesterday's paper, it was stated that Margaret Moore was required to give surety for assaulting Ann Shannon, and calling her evil names, and that the latter was acquitted of a similar charge preferred by Margaret Moore. Mrs. M., who is a hardworking and honest woman, called on us yesterday, and desires us to say that Ann Shannon did what is ascribed to her, and is now in jail in default of surety therefore. Our mistake was caused by the fact that Ann Shannon entered a similar complaint against Mrs. Moore, which was booked regularly, but to which the Mayor paid no heed. We were misled by the entries in the record in both cases being the same. This notice, we hope, will tend to repair any uneasiness caused to Mrs. M., by seeing herself in a false position.
