Lively times Ahead.

--We understand that the police officers have made out a list of the names of quite a number of persons of Northern birth who have not taken the oath of allegiance to the Confederate Government, with the intention of arresting them and applying this test of fidelity to them. It is, of course, not to be supposed that the officers will arrest any man who has resided in Virginia long enough to have acquired the rights of citizenship. All such persons are ipso jacto rendered citizens of the Southern Confederacy, and it is no more obligatory upon them to take the oath of allegiance, unless they are for cause suspected of disloyalty, than it is upon our native-born citizens. But if any man here acknowledges the authority of the United States Government in any manner whatsoever, or has not acquired the rights of citizenship, he is certainly liable to arrest, and should be required to swear allegiance to the Confederate Government. This oath, while it will not confer the rights of citizenship upon such persons, will be some test of their opinions. We give no names at present, preferring to wait until they are made public by the arrest of the parties.
