The alarm on the Southern sea-coast.
--The reports which have reached the State
, says a Georgia exchange, in regard to the destination of Lincoln
's fleet, has created great alarm on our sea-coast.
It will be gratifying, however, to the people in that vicinity to know, that the most active measures have been and are being taken by Governor Brown
for their protection and defence.
All the resources of the State
at his command will be in requisition, and we are also much gratified at being able to state, that the Executive
is crowded with applications from every section of Georgia
to go into the service of the State
and to the aid of our brethren of the sea-board.
Country rifles and shot-guns fit for service are being hunted up everywhere.
In addition to this, the Governor
has called upon the War Department for five thousand of the well-armed, equipped, and well-drilled Georgia volunteers now in the service of the Confederate States
With them, and those already on the coast and to be ordered there, Georgia
puts at defiance Lincoln
and all the fleets that he will dare send to harass or invade the State
