Death of Col. Geo. Bower.

--A correspondent of the Raleigh Standard gives the following particulars of the death of Mr. Bower:

He started to Raleigh on Monday last, the 7th, and reached the Yadkin river near Wilkesborough, about dark; he attempted to ford it, and the water being higher than he expected, his carriage and horses were washed down the stream and he was drowned. Diligent search was made for his body until the morning of the 10th, when it was found about a mile below where he was drowned. He was seventy-four years of age. He was one of our most energetic, industrious and useful citizens. He was a member of the church, and maintained as such a consistent and upright course.
