Mr. Henry Winter Davis, of this city, had addressed the citizens of Brooklyn, in the Brooklyn Academy of Music, on ‘"The Southern Insurrection and the Power of a Republican Government to Suppress it."’ It seems that the speaker ventured upon a course of argument adverse to the course of the Administration in several respects, and more especially in relation to the suspension of the writ of habeas corpus. The audience, though giving him much applause, also expressed its dissent from his views on several occasions, and the New York Times visits the speaker with a sharp rebuke, and intimates that Mr. Davis is subject to be wrong-headed, and like other patriotic men, to mistake his vocation. ’
