Confederate gun-boat firing into a Yankee Fort — the Federal expedition postponed — the rumored Promotion of Col. Heath.

Memphis, Dec. 4.
--Last Sunday three Confederate gun-boats went within gunshot of Cairo and fired fifteen rounds at Fort Holt. The Federals scampered out of their tents and would not fight one gun-boat anchored in the channel below Cairo.

Marie Demming, employed on the wharf, and a deserter from the Federals, says that Sunday was fixed on as the day for the Federals to come down with 60,000 men, but the expedition was postponed.

The rumored appointment of Col. Heath, to supercede Gen. Price, in the Department of Missouri, has created great dissatisfaction, and especially among the Missourians.
