--We learn that an application has been made to the city authorities to provide a safeguard for the canal curbing near the bridge on 7th street, and to place a gas-light there also. A person going down 7th street in the dark is as liable to walk overboard as any other way, and a recent case of drowning might have been prevented had such a provision been made before.
