Acknowledgment of donations for the soldiers.
Camp Near Union Mills. Va., Dec. 17th, 1861.
--Please allow me through your paper to acknowledge the reception of a handsome donation of blankets, socks, and gloves, made by the ladies of the ‘"Soldiers' Aid Society"’ at Kittrell
's, in Gates county, N. C.
, to companies B and H, of the 5th regiment, N. C. State Troops.
While we express our heartfelt gratitude to the fair donors for these articles, so necessary to the comfort of the soldier, we admire the patriotic enthusiasm which pervades the hearts of our lady friends in the old North State
, believing that they possess a degree of patriotism for the Southern
cause that would almost rival if not surpass Spartans themselves.
We shall ever hold them in grateful remembrance, and repay them with our best efforts to defend them from the invasion of the enemy when an opportunity is offered.
