Congressional.
Yesterday was the second day of the first session of the permanent Congress of the
Considerate States.
This body has entered with the performance of its responsible duties, at a time when the highest degree of patriotism and patience are necessary to the discharge of the important trusts committed to it. That it will be found equal to the trying emergency, the proceedings of saturday gave ample guarantee.
The members seem actuated with an earnest desire to the public interests, and to devote their time to such legislation as will dispel the clouds which hang over us, and to rescue Government from the perils which apparently environ it.
The Senate yesterday consumed a portion of the session in completing its organization, which it went into joint session with the
House, for the purpose of counting the for
President and
Vice-President of the
Confederates States.
The result of that count will be found in the regular proceedings of the House of Representatives.
Committees branch of the
Congress were to inform the
President of his election, and also that both Houses were organized and ready to receive communications.
