--The shinplaster evil has vastly increased, notwithstanding the anathemas of the press and the stupendous labors of grand juries some months ago. It is no uncommon thing now, when a citizen carries a pocket full of these rags to an ‘"institution"’ for redemption, to receive the encouraging information from some person in attendance-- ‘"Mr. So-and-so has gone with the melish, and I can do nothing for you."’
