--We copy the following particulars of a tragic affair which occuried at Knoxville, Tenn.
, on Saturday, the 29th ult., from the Register
of the 30th.
Much excitement was created in our city yesterday afternoon by the shooting of Leon Jones
, a well known citizen of this county, by a young man from Nashville
, a member of Col. Rains
's regiment, named Wallace Halle
was standing on the corner of Main and Gay streets when Halle
approached and shot him through the head with a pistol, killing him instantly.
The cause of the act, we learn, was a personal difficulty of some months' standing.
was an unmarried man, but leaves an aged mother and two sisters to mourn this and occurrence.
He was a brother of Hon. C. W. Jones
, county judge of this county.
is the son of a Nashville merchant, and, we believe, was chief bugler in Rains
's regiment at Cumberland Gap
