War Items.

There was no news of any special interest received yesterday from the Peninsula. The grand armies of the two republics are facing each other there, and the most stirring news from that quarter at any moment will not create surprise, as a conflict is hourly anticipated.

From the North Carolina coast we have intelligence of the enemy's attack upon Fort Macon, and of the gallant resistance of our troops up to Wednesday evening. It is supposed that our forces may be able to hold the fort against the assaults of the invaders. We have also a telegram in relation to a skirmish near the city of Savannah, in which the enemy were repulsed with some loss. We refer the reader to the telegraphic head for the latest news up to 12 o'clock last night.
