Homicide in New York.
--
Mr. Charles H. Summeregill, a well known jeweler, doing business at No. 188. Grand street
Williams burg,
N. Y., was arrested on the 24th instant, on a charge of causing the death of his son-in-law,
Mr. Daniel McCutcheon.
About six weeks ago the parties got into a quarrel, in the course of which McCucheon struck at his father-in-law, who, to defend himself, struck his assailant a blow in the back with a knife that lay near at hand.
The wound inflicted proved to be a very serious one.
The injured man was carried to bed, and everything possible done to save his life, but without avail.
No one was more deeply officiated at the sad event than the man who inflicted the fatal wound.
Last night
Mr. McCutcheon died from the effect of his injury, but, before his death, wholly exonerated his father-in-law from all blame.
As already stated,
Mr. Summeregill was arrested and held to await the result of a Coroner's inquest, which will be held to-day.
