"Disloyal" Episcopalians in Washington.
--Everybody who has been to
Washington will remember Trinity Church, the new and magnificent brown stone church recently built by the wealthiest Episcopal congregation in
Washington, and distinguishable from all other edifices in the city by its singular twin turrets.
The congregation, it seems, are not conforming themselves to the
Yankee standard of orthodoxy.
A Washington correspondent of a Boston paper says:
‘
A proposition is entertained of converting Trinity Church into a hospital for sick soldiers.
This movement is probably in consequence of the openly avowed disloyalty of the pastor, and the election of a Vestry, the majority of which sustain him in contumacious refusal to read the prayers prescribed by the
Bishop in favor of the success of the
Government.
