The Defence of Vicksburg.

General Earl Van Dorn has issued an eloquent address to the troops defending Vicksburg, congratulating them upon their heroism and gallantry under the concentrated fire of more than forty vessels of war and mortar boats. ‘"To have been one of the defenders of Vicksburg"’ (he says) ‘"will be the boast hereafter of those who shall bear your names, and a living joy by your hearthstones forever."’
