British and French war Vessels at Charleston.
Charleston, Dec. 9.
--The British war steamer Cadmus
, 21 guns, and the Petrel
, 13 guns, arrived off Charleston
yesterday, from Fortress Monroe
, on the 3d.
The British Consul spent last night aboard the Cadmus
That vessel left this morning for Fortress Monroe
leaves, on Thursday.
The French corvette Milan
still lies anchored the harbor.
Yesterday evening, her commander, with Generals Beauregard
, and a number of ladies and invited guests, visited Fort Sumter
It is rumored that intelligence has been received that the iron-clad, Passaic
, left New York and reached Hampton Roads
, and after remaining there some days, left for the South
but we, obliged to put back to the Roads
in a disabled condition.
