Attempting to Utter a forged note.

--A slave named Absalom, owned by Mrs. Louisa G. Allan, on Tuesday last presented a forged check for $500 at the counter of the Bank of Virginia. The forgery was executed so clumsily that it was instantly detected. The name of the negro was spelled ‘"Apasallom, "’ and his mistress's name signed ‘"Mrs. Louise G. Allen."’ He was whipped for his attempted dishonesty, but refused to tell how he got hold of the check.
