Meeting of the Legislature.

Both Houses of the Legislature met yesterday at 12o'clock. The Senate adjourned until to-day, there being no quorum present.

In the House Mr. Hugh W. Sheffey of Augusta, was nominated for Speaker and elected without opposition. In taking the seat he made a brief and very eloquent address, which we regret we have not space to publish. He assured the House that though our arms continued to be blessed with history the contact was by no means ended, and it us to see that no distracting conflicts should among those who are the pilots of the State. He said that "Virginia, after the struggle in past, will stand as the majestic oak of the forest after the storm, stripped, it may be, of its leaves, but still with trunk and proudest branches unscathed."

Gen. W. Wilson of R was elected 2d Doorkeeper.

Tuesday next, the 12th, was fixed upon for the balloting for a Confederate States Senator.

After the Governor's Message was read the House adjourned.
