of a gold watch, a pocket-knife, and $27 in money.

The prisoners came by and extended a pressing invitation for him to step aside and take a drink with them.
He did so; but had hardly gotten out of sight of the sentinel when they garroted him in the most approved style, one holding him by the threat to prevent an outcry, while the other appropriated his effects.
After accomplishing this they left their prostrate victim and made off. As he happened to know them, but little difficulty was found in putting the guard on their track.
The case was continued until Monday.
