--Hardly a night passes that some footpad does not rob a citizen or a soldier in the streets of Richmond
Saturday night, as J. W. McDowell
, a member of the 27th N. C. regiment, was going from the Theatre, he was robbed near the Old Fair Grounds
. Two men, lying on a cellar door, called to him to halt, which, thinking it was the city guard, he did. They then cocked their pistols, held them to his breast, searched and robbed him of his pocket-book and all the money he had. After this he was told to "go on." The armed guard is again wanted on the streets.
Saturday night, on Main street, a few doors below the Dispatch
office, an attempt was made to rob a gentleman of his watch.
The watch was called, answered promptly, and pursued the thief to the roof of a neighboring building, where he was captured.
