The Northern Democracy.
It is announced that the War
. Democracy, led by Van Buren
, is to meet in New York soon, to cry out for vigorous.
war and denounce the anti-war portion of their party.
From present appearances the Democrats are in danger of defeating themselves, while the Republicans look on with pleasure at their bitter feuds.
The fact is, there is so much corruption in New York polities that all the movements there are for the most sordid and selfish ends.
There may be now and then an honest man that, with the help of a lamp in day-time, might be by possibility encountered; but the leaders of all parties are now, have been, and will continue to be, struggling for the spoils — offices, contracts, bribes, pickings, and stealing.
They are all united in one grand motive, and that is a "vigorous war" upon the Treasury.
