Not settled.

--N. Burke and J. Hammon, two of Gen. Winder's detectives, were before the Mayor yesterday to answer the charge of assaulting and beating Michael Walls. The detectives, on learning that three barrels of whiskey had been carried to the house of Walls, went there, by order of their superior officer, to seize it. Walls denied having any liquor contrary to law, and declaring his determination to hold his own property, an altercation sprang up, which induced Hammon to seize him by the collar and take him to the Provost Marshal. As soon as the evidence was concluded the Mayor raised the question as to the legality of "Martial Law," and the C. S. Attorney not being prepared to argue its right, the investigation was adjourned till Tuesday next.
