The Government ought to give immediate attention to preventing future raids from the White House by selecting one of several eligible positions which may be found on the Pamunkey for preventing the ascent of Yankee vessels.
A few guns, placed on one of the bluffs of the Pamunkey, would secure a large and fertile tract of country from destructive visitations.
