Assault and Battery.

--John Manning appeared before the Mayor yesterday to answer the charge of assaulting and beating John Buckley in Main street. Buckley said he had given no cause for the assault, and would have made no complaint had it been inflicted by a soldier, but he could not bear the idea of being beaten by any one that carried British protection papers in their pockets. The Mayor required Manning to give security for his good behavior for the next twelve months, and also to answer an indictment by the next Grand Jury.
