Confederate patent office report.
--The annual report of the
Commissioner of Patents was made to Congress Thursday.
Last year 114 applications were made, 47 caveats filed, 89 patents issued, and 13
United States patents and assignments thereof, in whole or in part, recorded and revived.
One patent was granted to a citizen of
Bavaria, 33 to
Virginia, 11 to
Georgia, 9 to
Missouri, 8 to
Texas, 7 to
North Carolina, 6 to
Alabama, 4 to
Mississippi, 4 to
Louisiana, 3 to
Kentucky, 2 to
South Carolina, and one to
Abingdon--41 are for improvements in fire arms, projectiles, implements of war and machinery for their manufacture, a fair proportion of which have been adopted by the
Government and proven of practical service.--More than a third of the applications for patents are for inventions of this nature.
The office is self-sustaining, being no expense to the
Government.
The whole number of patents granted since he organization of the
Government is 22.3.
