The Legislature.
A bill was reported in the
Senate yesterday, to amend and re-enact the 12th section of chapter 77 of the Code.
Two bills were passed--one to prevent the unlawful carrying of slaves on boats, and
A bill to amend and re-enact the charter of the
Union Female College.
Mr. Randolph offered a resolution of inquiry for extending the corporate limits of
Richmond City; and one for increasing the capital stock of the
Virginia Fire and Marine Insurance Company.
Adjourned.
In the
House a bill was passed incorporating the
Richmond Insurance Company.
A bill was reported declaring what contracts shall be payable in currency.
Also, a bill authorizing the
Governor to contract with some person for the purchase of alcohol.
It was agreed to appoint a Committee of Conference on the amendment to the bill for the relief of soldiers' families residing within the control of the enemy.
A resolution of
Mr. Staples, for the recommitment of the military bill with certain restrictions, gave rise to considerable discussion.
The resolution was rejected — ayes 38, noes 54.
The consideration of the
Military Bill was resumed, and continued until the hour of adjournment.
