The Hibernia, with European dates to the 12th, had arrived at Portland. The most interesting items of news by this arrival are the following:

‘ It is reported that Great Britain, supported by France, Russia and Sweden, has proposed a conference for the settlement of the Danish question. The basis of England's proposition is said to be that the Danes shall give up all of Schleswig except the Island of Alsen. The Danes had evacuated Duppel and retreated to Alsen.

’ The Florida left Brest on the night of the 9th, and the Kearrage was supposed to be in pursuit.

In the British Parliament Earl Derby attacked the Government policy in regard to the Alabama affair and the Laird's rams, insinuating that the rams had been seized under the influence of American menaces.

Cotton firmer, but prices unchanged, Consols, for money, closed at 91.
