Col John McCaustand, of the 36th Va regiment, has been promoted to be Brigadier General, and assigned to the command of the cavalry brigade lately commanded by the lamented Gen A C Jenkins.

Graham D. Baker was tried at Cumberland (N. C.) Superior Court last week for distilling grain into whiskey. He was convicted and fined $5,000 and sentenced in 60 days imprisonment.
