Daring attempt a robbery.
--On Friday night last, between the hours of 12 and 1 o'clock, Mr F C Brauer
, living on Venable street, was aroused by a slight noise, which seemed to proceed from his front porch, and fearing that all was not right, he got out of bed and went to the window to see what was the matter, when he saw three men coming towards his house from the opposite side of the street.
Mr B watched them till they entered his porch, and then hauled them through the wind blinds but instead of making any reply they started to run, when he fired two shots at them.--This caused them to half, but, as it turned out, not from wounds received, for in a very few seconds three shots were fired in return by them, one of which passed through the window blinds, and the other two entered the weather-boarding on the outside of the house.
After they left, an examination of the front part of the house was made, and it was ascertained that they had taken one of the window shutters off, and were about to open the window with a chisel, which in their haste to get away was left behind, Watch was kept the balance of the night, but no further disturbance took place.
