The markets.

--Owing to the very dry spell which is prevailing the markets are but poorly supplied with fresh vegetables, and what are offered for sale are held at such high figures that but few persons can afford to buy them. Indifferent Irish potatoes are offered at from four to six dollars; greens (improperly called cabbages by the hucksters) from five to seven dollars per head, and other garden produce in like ratio.--Eleven and twelve dollars per pound seems to be the standard price for good butter.--Rain is very much needed, as well to increase the quantity and quality of summer vegetables as to bring down the prices.
