were — killed, fifty-three; wounded, one hundred and twenty-eight; and that Sherman
was knocking Atlanta
to pieces with four-and-a-half inch shells.
The press correspondents say the debris was immediately cleared away at City Point
preparatory to erecting new wharves, &c., which ware destroyed.
Three thousand barrels of ammunition exploded, destroying a warehouse five hundred feet long, and many other buildings, including a train of cars.
