Burnt to death.
--A small wooden tenement, situated in an alley between Jefferson and Adams streets, took fire on Friday night and was partially destroyed.
During the progress of the fire the spectators were alarmed by the screams of children, and immediately efforts were made to rescue them from their perilous situation; but before an entrance could be effected one of them, a negro girl about seven years of age, was burnt to death.
A negro boy was also found in the same room, crouched up in the chimney corner; but he was unhurt.
An old negro woman, occupying the house, had been called away a short while before, and had locked the two children up in the room in which they were discovered.
