City Council.

--At a regular monthly meeting of the Council, held yesterday afternoon, the following business was transacted.

Mr. Scott, from the Committee on the Fire Department, to whom had been referred the recent action of John T. Rogers, in disposing a fire engine for his own personal use, claimed as the property of the city, made a report, concluding by offering a resolution adverse to Roger's title, which was unanimously adopted by the Council.

Mr. Glazebrook, from the Committee on the Alms-house, reported that the City Alms house had been rented to the Board of Visitors of the Virginia Military Institute at the rate of $15,000 per annum, payments to be made annually.

Mr. Scott, from the committee to whom had been referred the matter of purchasing clothing for the soldiers from Richmond in the Confederate service, made a statement, in effect, that, after giving the subject a thorough investigation, and making an extended search throughout the city, he thought it impossible to obtain a sufficient supply to furnish all the troops with clothing, and therefore thought the question should be postponed for the present.

Mr. Walker hoped that the Council would, at least, order the purchase of overcoats for our troops, as he had been informed that they were desperately in need of them.

It was agreed by the Council that the committee should consider the matter further.

William J. Eppes, John Talman, Luther Reins, W. Gill and R. H. Higgins, were re-elected to fill the various offices which they have held for several years past.

After some other unimportant business, the Council adjourned.
