Whale leather.

--A Frenchman has obtained a patent for whale leather, which is found to be remarkably pliant stuff.--The skin is so thick that, after removing the inner portion, which is spongy, the remainder is split to make it of the usual sheet thickness. It is remarkably tough, but as soft as buckskin, and it repels water well.
