Wouldn't break.

--The testing of the tenacity of the suspension rods for the Petersburg bridge was an interesting experiment. After the rod had borne the full test of the vast weight without breaking, all the pig iron about the establishment was piled on it, and still it held. This is pleasant to know when people have to go over the bridge.

It is proper in this connection to say that the delay in the construction of the bridge arises from the failure of the sub-contractors to supply the timber. Mr. Strong has made arrangements for prompt delivery in future, and now that it is under the charge of able engineers, it will go on rapidly.
