Tried for Shooting his step-mother.

--Dinwiddie County Court was in session yesterday, engaged in the examination of James M. Chappell, charged with the murder of his step-mother, whom it is alleged he shot on the night of September 16, 1864. Chappell was not arrested on this charge until the month of October last, when he himself was shot by his brother, at which time he confessed that it was he who fired the fatal shot at his step-mother. The examination was in progress last evening when our informant left the court-house.--Petersburg Express.
