Shocking outrage — the Perpetrator arrested.

--On the 18th of November a shocking rape was committed on the person of Mrs. Pierce, a respectable married lady, residing near Sandy Spring, Maryland, by a negro named John. The negro entered the house at night while Mr. Pierce was absent attending the Washington Market, and after committing the shocking deed, made his escape to Philadelphia. He has just been arrested, brought back and committed to jail.

The outrage created much feeling in the county, and the fact of his arrest was kept quiet until he was safely lodged in jail, in order to prevent lynching him.--Washington Star.
