5. de Sancto Michaele

Lux redit Accoltae renovans solennia gentis
Laeta solet proprios qua coluisse Deos,
Teque unum imprimis, vasti cui laeta iuventus
Aetheris assurgit, subsequiturque Ducem,
5Tartareae terror pubis, quem saeva tremiscunt
Agmina, et Eumenidum turba severa fugit:
Seu diras acies penetrare licentius oras
Luminis, intorta cuspide, sancte, vetas,
Immersasque chao involvis, tenebrisque malignis,
10Inviso cogens subdere colla iugo;
Seu trutina insontes animas suspendis in alta,
Digna sibi ut meritis praemia quisque ferat,
Et coelo ascribis cives, solioque receptas
Das superum sanctis accubuisse toris.
15Ergo ades, et positis, ales pulcherrime, telis
Ad tua transmisso labere sacra polo,
Quae tibi purpureo crinem redimitus amictu
Accoltus prisca simplicitate novat.
Ille quidem templis olim te rite dicatis
20Excipiet, sacras instituetque dapes;
Et melior fortuna viro si arriserit olim,
Inflictas clades qua reparasse queat,
Gemmeus, et flavo pennas interlitus auro
Aurata fulgens stabis in aede Deus,
25Raraque pendebunt adytis donaria sacris,
Phidiacas possint quae decuisse manus:
Hic caelata tuae cernes decora inclyta dextrae,
Exulat ad Stygios queis fera turba lacus.
Ardebat coelo bellum nam forte coortum,
30Diraque servilis sumpserat arma furor;
Coelicolae trepidare omnes gliscente tumultu,
Et diversa alto castra locare polo:
Primus in obstantes ausus perrumpere turmas
Irruis, et iusto bella dolore moves.
35Aeratam agnosces galeam, flammasque vomentem,
Presserat auricomum quae tibi fida caput,
Fervidus utque ageres victas te te ante catervas,
Et turpi cernes cedere monstra fuga:
Stratus humi, validoque tremens sub cuspidis ictu,
40Fessa tuo Pluton sub pede colla dabit.
Interea, sacras nexis dum floribus aras
Cingimus, et flammis annua thura damus,
Consule Dive boni, atque inopes ne despice cultus,
Munera mox rediens uberiora feres.
45Tu modo bellator praepes, coelique minister
Accolto longas des superare dies,
Et morbos omneis, vitaeque incommoda pellens
Serus inoffenso fac petat astra pede.
