3. gloomy, dispirited, hopeless All'sW. II. i. 147 “Where hope is coldest,” 1H4 II. iii. 35 “cold heart,” 2H4 V. ii. 31, 3H6 III. ii. 133.
4. chilling, damping 2H6 III. i. 86 “ news,” R3 IV. iv. 535.
5. without power to move or influence Gent. IV. iv. 188, Mer.V. II. vii. 73 “your suit is cold.”
6. (of scent) not strong, faint Tw.N. II. v. 136 “at a scent,” Ven. 694 “the fault” ; cf. Wint. II. i. 150.
