limbo: (properly) abode of the just who died before Christ's coming (‘Limbo patrum’) or of infants who have died unbaptized (‘Limbo infantum’); used vaguely=Hell, All'sW. V. iii. 264, Tit. III. i. 150 “As far from help as is from bliss” ; transf. prison Err. IV. ii. 32 “in Tartar ,” H8 V. iv. 69 “I have some of 'em in Limbo Patrum.”
