Early Type B amphora

A tall two-handled pot with a narrow neck used for funerary purposes.

History: A large group of this type of vessel is decorated with depictions of a horse's head within the panels, and it is believed that this type was made for export to Etruria. In Athens they are primarily, but not exclusively, used as funerary vessels, serving as cinerary urns, tomb markers, and grave goods. This vase shape gradually gives way to other variations of the neck amphora, such as the Tyrrhenian and the Nikosthenic amphorae.
